FRIENDS OF CLAINES CHuRCH

Interregnum Details

Following the departure of Reverend Stephen Agnew on 6th May  the parish of Claines is now in a temporary period of being without a Priest, known as Interregnum (“between reigns”)

The legal responsibility for the Church will now rest with the Church Wardens, Phil Kear and Rachel Cramp, supported by the PCC.

As part of the process for appointing a successor the parish will be completing a parish profile, a person specification and a SWOT analysis (Strengths, Weaknesses,Opportunities, Threats).

We wish to fully engage the parish in this process and seek your views, feedback and opinions.

We will use this page to keep you informed of progress and also to provide an opportunity for you to make your comments on the key documents as they develop.

New Priest in Charge Announced for Claines

Since Revd Stephen Agnew moved from Claines to St Mary’s, Old Swinford, in May, there has been a period of vacancy.

After much consultation with the Churchwardens and the PCC, the Bishop proposed that due to re-organisation within the Deanery, a new Vicar would be the Priest in Charge at St John Baptist, Claines and Curate in Charge at St George’s, Barbourne.  The Bishop put forward a preferred candidate whom both the PCCs at Claines and St George’s agreed to interview.

The candidate visited the two Churches and toured the two Parishes on Monday 12 November, meeting some key people from the congregations.  On Wednesday 14 November following a Eucharist at St George’s for both Churches, a short act of family worship took place led by the candidate, to which representatives from the PCCs and children from the local schools attended.

Following this a full interview took place at Claines Church.  Two elected representatives from Claines PCC and two from St George’s PCC, who were the decision makers,  and a further 5 people including Revd Canon Dr Stuart Currie, Rural Dean and Archdeacon Roger Morris made up the interview panel.

We are pleased to publish here an announcement from Archdeacon Roger Morris, which was read out in Church on Sunday 18 November.

The Bishop of Worcester is pleased to announce that he has offered the appointment of Priest in Charge of Claines St John Baptist and Curate in Charge of Worcester St George and St Mary Magdalene to the Revd Jo Musson, and the offer has formally been accepted.

Jo is currently Assistant Curate in the parish of Redditch Christ the King ( The Bridge Church, previously St Luke’s Headless Cross).  Jo is married to Adrian; they have three daughters and one granddaughter. Prior to ordination Jo was Bishop’s Adviser for Children’s Ministry in the Diocese of Birmingham and before that she worked for British Gas as a Project Manager.

A date for the licensing has yet to be finalised.

14th October UPDATE ON VACANCY

We are pleased to be able give you an update on the vacancy.

Over the summer we completed the Parish Profile, which is an excellent summary of everything we do at Claines Church.   There is to be a paper copy of the profile in Church, which you are welcome to browse through and the profile cab be found on the website, below. As the appointment will be shared equally between Claines and St George’s, Archdeacon Roger Morris asked Claines and St George’s to put together a Joint Person Specification, against which any candidate will be measured at interview.  This was completed in September.

Whilst we still await some paperwork from the Bishop’s Office, we were asked to hold what is known as a Section 11 Meeting of the PCC and at that, Rachel and Phil were elected as the two people who will represent Claines at any interview.

The Bishop has put forward a “Preferred Candidate” which the PCC has agreed we should interview.  This will take place on Wednesday 14 November.  For this candidate to be appointed Claines two representatives and St George’s two representatives must all agree.  If they do not agree, an advertisement for a Priest in Charge will be placed in the Church Times.

In the meantime a planning application has been submitted by the Diocese for work to raise the Vicarage roof and there are plans to make changes to the layout of the downstairs and to undertake some refurbishment.

Prayer for the Interregnum

GOD OUR FATHER

You have welcomed each one of us in Jesus

and called us to be His Body in this place;

Send us your Holy Spirit,

at this time of uncertainty and change,

to fill us with vision, energy,

and faithfulness in prayer,

that we may be true to our calling

to bring new life to our community;

And guide with your heavenly wisdom

those who are to choose a new Incumbent for this parish,

that the one whom we receive

may be a wise and gentle shepherd of your people:

ready to serve us with joy,

to build us up in faith,

and to lead us by example

in loving obedience to your son,

our Saviour, Jesus Christ. Amen

Reverend Jo Musson
